YSKP Audition Workshop for Summer Season
Saturdays, April 30 and May 7, 2015. 12:00p-3:00p
First Presbyterian Church, 314 Xenia Ave, Yellow Springs, Ohio
Grades 3 & up
All interested youth must attend the Audition Workshop to participate in our Summer Theatre Immersion program, which includes two projects this year, but only need to attend one day.
YSKP is dedicated to a non-traditional, fun audition process. Our auditions take place as a group workshop and include a warm-up, singing, movement and readings from the script. Youth will also be given a chance to sing a song and tell a story.
Please prepare a short song of any genre and a one minute story about an interesting character. Also please bring any schedule conflicts to auditions. Performers will be able to indicate if they have a preference of summer project at auditions.
Our 22nd original musical, written by Jill Summerville and directed by AnnMarie Saunders is inspired by the life of Alice Roosevelt Longworth, Teddy Roosevelt’s daughter. While she was young, Alice was referred to America’s princess, though she was known for getting into mischief. But later in life, she was called a Washington Monument for her pervasive impact on politics from drawing rooms, letters to newspapers, and other means. The production will include original music, modern dance based movement and an exploration of how we both change and remain the same as we age. Rehearsals will begin May 9th.
Performance Dates: June 23, 24, 25, 26 and June 30, July 1, 2, 3
Fee: $200 includes a t-shirt and DVD. Scholarships are available.
Off the Wall: performance/art
Our second summer project is produced in partnership with the Springfield Museum of Art and curated by Ara G. Beal. It will be performed in the galleries at the museum. Youth performers will create individual pieces in response to the art on display there. Since these pieces will be created by the performers, it’s hard to know what’s in store, but the performances will provide a more intimate, ‘off-the-wall’ audience experience. It’ll be a ‘choose your own performance’ kind of night!
Workshop dates: July 18-July 29
Performance dates: July 29-August 7
Fee: $100 includes a t-shirt and DVD. Scholarships are available.
2016 marks YSKP’s twenty-second summer producing original musical theatre for youth. Founded in 1995 by John Fleming, the company has committed itself to providing unique performing opportunities for area kids. Actors in YSKP’s shows have an opportunity to create a role. They learn skills related to singing, dancing, character building, and mime. Participants also exercise their ability to work collaboratively, take responsibility, and think on their feet. They increase their confidence and creativity.
